Hotel Lydmar, Stockholm, Sweden, 21 February 2026

We have had our eye on this hotel for quite some time. A boutique luxury hotel with an amazing view of two of Stockholm’s harbours. Its only drawback is that given what we usually do in Stockholm, the location is not ideal.

Things did not start out well: having checked in advance that it would be possible to come and eat breakfast even though not staying here, and been told it’s okay and no need to book, we were told on arrival that you need to call ahead of time. That being said, we were seated with no further fuss. The breakfast is a combination of a cold buffet and a fairly small menu from which you can order hot dishes. As is common in the West, the food was Western only. A decent choice of cheese, cold cuts, vegetables, and cereal and nuts. The variety of bread was surprisingly limited for a Swedish breakfast. The bagels were uninspiring, but croissants were absolutely excellent! There was fresh fruit, but already cut up, which showed in the odd case. The tea was loose leaf (great!) and the hotel even has its own blend, the Black Lydmar Blend, a somewhat fruity and pleasant variety. The poached eggs were very good as well.

All in all, this is a good breakfast, considerably better than average (although average in Sweden means very good by the standards of many other countries), but not as spectacular as some others in this city. I will therefore give it 7/10.
