Grand Hotel, Łódź, Poland, 20 April 2025

A relatively small, but nevertheless very varied and good breakfast. The bread is excellent and there is a good choice. Also, a nice spread of cold cuts and vegetables, as well as of cereal and various dried fruits and nuts etc to put in your yoghurt. Good choice of cut-up fresh fruit, in particular blood orange, which I don’t think I have ever seen anywhere else and which in itself raises the score. Also very nice cinnamon buns (the closest I have seen to Swedish cinnamon buns outside the Nordic countries). There are no hot dishes on the buffet (except hard-boiled eggs) but there is a menu from which you can order various cooked dishes. All very nicely presented and well prepared. Drawbacks? Well, the tea is bags only, although I expected that. Butter is portioned out and presented in small dishes. Nothing wrong with that, except when they run out and it takes some time to replenish the supply. All in all, very nice. I was going to say 8/10, but the blood orange raises it to 8.5/10.
