This is of course one of Washington’s classical hotels, visited by every president since Franklin Pierce. The breakfast was menu only, i.e., no buffet, and the tea was (of course!) bags only. Somewhat disappointingly the menu did not offer ‘simple; options, like just toast. However, this is the United States, so all you had to do was ask and you were given. A somewhat larger party than usual meant that we were able to sample quite a few dishes. They were uniformly very good. The poached eggs were just right and the bacon was crispy, as were the eggs Benedict. Good waffles and both the berrries bowl and the fruit palate were very nice. Portions just the right size. Overall, well worth 7/10.
