In my introduction to this Travel Breakfast Blog, I write that one of the best hotel breakfasts I have had the pleasure of trying, was at the Island Shangri-La in Hong Kong. Although I have been back to Hong Kong a number of times, I had not revisited this breakfast in order to include it formally in the blog. I have finally decided to rectify that omission. The spread is certainly spectacular. So is the quality of the food, and the service. A good choice of Chinese, western and some Japanese dishes, warm, cold, very nice choice of excellent bread, lots of salad and vegetables, good juice choice and so on. And the tea is loose leaf! The dumpling offerings were amazing and very tasty too. And yet: comparing it with some other top breakfasts I have reviewed over the years, there are some very minor drawbacks. The cheese choice is limited; and only two types of cold cuts. Waffles and pancakes, but no crêpes. None of this makes for a bad breakfast. It was excellent. But, after careful consultation with my guest, we agreed that the correct rating is not 10/10, but a still extremely good 9/10.
