Gyllene Uttern (the Golden Otter) is one of the classical hotels of Sweden, the first “motor hotel“, built in 1933. The view of Lake Vättern is to die for. Unfortunately, the breakfast is not. Again, a decent spread, good on the cold cuts and cheese side, waffles, warm dishes, yoghurt and cereals, two kinds of herring. But: the tea is bags only, the orange juice is concentrate, no porridge (note by one member of the party), the boiled eggs are cold and the fruit section only consists of cut up pineapple and melon. The croissants are indifferent. Again, this is not a bad breakfast; it is just not that great. However, the existence of energy shots (lauded by another youngster of 67) gives it 6/10.
